Copyright Laws
Copyright is protected
in the Dominican Republic by modern legislation
based on the spirit and feeling of the Universal
Convention on Copyright.. It also extends
the national protection to works, not only
of Dominicans but of citizens of member
countries at the Universal Convention on
Copyright, and of the signatory countries
of the Conventions of Washington, Buenos
Aires and any other treaty on this subject.
Dominican law creates a structure of
contracts, rights of use and trade of
copyright, which guarantees to authors
of an intellectual work a complete property
of such work.
Also it creates a strict system of sanctions
against infringers of copyright that includes
imprisonment from 3 months to 3 years
and a fine, in addition to civil actions
to which such infringers may be liable.
